What is the different between a "smoothie maker" and a normal blender?

Can't I just put the stuff I would put into a smoothie maker into a normal blender?

1. smoothie makers usually have much more powerful motor and stronger and longer blades than a blender so it can mash up the ice better a blender will work but you might have some problems getting it smooth
