Is it safe to stack kitchen appliances?

Going to sound a little silly, but I just moved in a new apartment and the kitchen, putting it lightly, is much smaller. Does anyone know would it be unsafe to put my rice cooker on top of my microwave to save space? I would turn them on while they are stacked like that, just not at the same time. However of course if this is unsafe, I'll be finding another spot. Any advice? Past experiences?

  1. A rice cooker ought to work just fine on top of a microwave. I don't see why you'd have any problem with that.
  2. Probably not a good idea. Heat from these appliances could cause damage to the one under it.
  3. it should be safe as long as you do not use them at the same time. I ran into the same problem with my toaster oven and microwave.beside tripping the circuit breaker because i used them both at the same time had no problems with either appliance. I would be concerned about moving the cooker when it is hot though.
  4. Stacking them for storage shouldn't be a problem but using them at the same time might be. I had the same problems as Matt R...when I used my microwave and another appliance at the same time, the circuit breaker tripped (because I didn't know at the time that my refrigerator AND my computer were on the same circuit). Also, if your rice cooker gets hot on the bottom you shouldn't use it on top of the microwave if the microwave has a plastic outer casing, which isn't made to stand up to heat. It the casing is metal you don't have to remove it to use it.
