Remodelling a small kitchen...Is Ikea a good place to go for design, product and installation? They seem to know so much about getting the maximum out of a very small area (we are in a very small condo, renovated, used to be the top floor of a home with 4 bedrooms and a bathroom. Now it has an office, kitchen and an living/dining room combo that used to be 2 bedrooms. The third floor attic is now the bedroom. Comments on Ikea for everything may help.

Help with Kitchen remodel and design? I wanted to remodel my ugly and ill designed kitchen. Where are some good places, websites perhaps, that I can get help on a kitchen redesign? I dont what to hire an architect at this point. I have stairs that come into it and 3 additional doors that enter the kitchen and its small (8.5'x11.75') so everything seems very out of place. I understand about cabinets, counter tops, tiles, etc... I just really lack on the architecture and design area. Thanks!

I am looking for an inexpensive home design for a small and narrow lot 28x72. I want a simple lean to shape.? Most homes are too wide and the modernist homes are nice but too expensive. I only need windows on the front and the back. I do not need a garage, but I do need a drive. I have front and back street access and it needs to be built on piers. I would like 2 bedrooms with 1 or 2 baths and an open floor plan with the living and kitchen areas. It should be 1,000 sq ft or under and a very simple inexpensive design. I feel like I have few options because I want to keep the cost down and no one makes money that way. I only need maybe 2 interior doors at the most and I would like my closets to have rolling barn style panels. I do not want a pitched roof but I do want a lean to style roof, so the living room seems vaulted but I can put the duct work above the ceiling in the bedrooms. I want the bedroom and baths on one side, with a porch and living space on the otherside possibly wrapping around the back. It does not seem that this should be so complicated. Help where can I get a design cheap.
looking for plans for small kitchn? can you help me lay out a rough plan for a kitchen re-design project for small spaces ?
How do I find a kitchen designer for a small job? I can afford to re-do my (12') kitchen island right now, and I'm not getting much attention from Lowe's or Home Depot; the designer hasn't called back. What are the other options? DIY is not practical, so I'm not going there. Who else can help me design this island? Where else, besides other Big Boxes, can I go for design and product? I'm looking at upper-end stock cabinets to semi-custom. Thanks for your time and help! ~Kimber in Dallas, TX
Kitchen paint color scheme - interior decorating/design question HELP!? Help! My kitchen needs a makeover! Here's what has to stay - the floor has a marbled look to it - it is mostly white but has blueish gray in it, the cabinets are a beautiful dark wood to match the rest of the trim in our home, and the countertop is pale blue. The kitchen is quite small, and sort of dark because of all of the dark wood cabinets, but I am not willing to paint the cabinets. I consider myself to be good at interior design, but I am just stumped because of the high contrast between the pale blue countertop and the dark cabinets. I love the floor, but hate the countertop. I know you can buy paint to paint the counter, but I am too scared to do that. I would consider having someone put new laminate on the countertop, but I have no idea how much this would cost or who (a store?) you would go to to ask about this. Another problem I have is that there is a LOT of trim in our kitchen. This means I have to decide on two colors instead of one. Currently the kitchen is the same as it was when we moved in last year - I've done the rest of the house but am stumped on the kitchen. Right now the walls are sort of a pale greenish blue and the trim is sort of a light evergreen, and there is flowerish border around to tie all the blues/greens/beiges together. It certainly doesn't look bad, but its just kind of "blah" and doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't reflect my style or the fact that I'm 24 and really into interior design. I'm also scared to pair the blue with yellow because of it looking too country-ish. Please help! One more thing - my living room is off the kitchen, but through a doorway, and it is done in monochromatic shades of the aquaish color that's so hot right now - if anyone is familiar with Pier 1, its the color that they have a lot of pieces and curtains in. If I stick with blue or green in the kitchen, won't this clash with the aqua in the livingroom? Many are suggesting painting an accent wall another color - my kitchen is sort of circular with cabinets all around - there is no ceiling to floor wall in the whole kitchen without cabinets or the bar against it.
how much will a new fitted kitchen cost? roughly? to design and fit a small to medium sized kitchen, contempory design fitted by the pros too!!! in the UK, also a new bathroom? just want an idea nothing specific
Is this is proper estimate for a basement small kitchen, and entrance? okay here is what i wrote, now i know that it depends on the home, but here is what i asked my family and i are thinking of a buying a 7 year old house(with a garage), that has a basement with 2 rooms, a full bathroom, and a family room, we want to have complete separate entrance to the basement, from the garage, and also would like to add a small kitchen, we havent bought the house yet, we just want an estimate of how much this could cost before we make a deal the company wrote: Assuming there are no rough-ins for the kitchen plumbing and also assuming there is space in the panel for the additional kitchen circuits: between 12,000 and 20,000$. For permits, design drawings, concrete work in the garage and foundation to allow for the separate entrance, kitchen cabinets and fixtures, plumbing & electrical and a minimal amount of framing if required. Is this a really high estimate? because i've looked on yahoo answer (i realize its not the best source) but ive heard for the entrance it could around 2000-3000 and for kitchen i was assuming about 7000. and i also asked another company and they told me about2000-4000 but i think it culd be little higher, now im obviously going to ask them to come see the house and then give me real estimate, but is the first company estimate a little high?
Creative Ways to Decorate 676 sq. ft apartment? SMALL KITCHEN Problem.? I am moving from a small (535 sq. ft) to a seemingly much much bigger 676 sq. ft. apartment this month. I am moving from second floor to third, so I will have vaulted ceilings. I am allowed to paint, and I really want to. I wanted to know of a forum or any ideas that I could get from other people for general ideas of using color, or fun interior design ideas. I love bright colors, but what colors are the easiest to paint back over with creme? Also, what can I do with lighting and such now that I will have vaulted ceilings? I also have a VERY small galley style kitchen still. Like, I can't open my closet door and fridge at the same time they are so close. I love DIY, so any creative ideas that I can make would be great!! Thanks so much! :)
Suggestions for kitchen cabinets (color and style). ??? In the stages of designing the kitchen for our new home. It is a galley style kitchen. The dining area extends past the kitchen area and I don't want to put any type of bar for eating on the ends of the cabinets. I feel this will only close the area. Since the kitchen/eating and greatroom are an open floor plan, I will be using hardwood through this entire area. I am leaning toward the french cream with a glaze. It will be a small kitchen. So my cabinets will have to be designed to utilize space very efficiently. I will not be able have many upper wall cabinets, and I would like to use glass doors on a few doors to "dress-up" the look. If you can suggest a website to design a kitchen, that would be great. (not the hgtv one, it doesn't help me) Countertop colors??? I will probably use a granite.
I need help with the kitchen.please? We're building our house, but we have to figure out a kitchen design, none of us could bring a solution for the kitchen which is small , do you please have any website (with pics) to give me, in order to have a clear idea about our future kitchen.
Which kitchen supplier is best ? My parents have a small kitchen in a flat in Essex which is old fashioned and needs completely stripping and re-fitting - which large company B&Q, MFI etc. would you recommend to design and fit including new appliances, re-position combi boiler, laminate flooring etc.etc.
house problem kitchen too small? I went to look at a rented property the other day and it was perfect for me and my family apart from the kitchen being small. The layout of downstairs is : you walk through the front door into a room that is a decent size, then into another room which is much bigger, then the kitchen. The lady who lives there now has the first room as a dining room, the middle room as the living room (probably because it is the bigger of the two), but this means that her fridge is in her living room because it wont fit in the kitchen. I'm thinking of having the big room as the dining room instead but how could I incorporate a small fridge and freezer into the design without it looking stupid. Thankyou
Kitchen remodel -- black granite floor and black granite countertop? I have a small kitchen that I want to remodel. I like the look of the black granite floor tiles and I also like the black granite counter tops. If I were to do both in the black granite, would this look bad? I have never seen it done so I thought maybe it was a design faux pas.

What Backsplash design and Tile? Here is a picture of my kitchen. http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1885/kitchen1ep1.jpg It is a very small kitchen....but it's cozy. I just replaced all of my 1960's, rotted cabinets with the ones in the picture. I am a single guy so I am not very good at picking out colors that will go well so I need your help in deciding a backsplash idea. I was thinking white glossy tiles with a counter top matching pattern every so often. Please keep in mind that I WILL be painting this room and I am open for color suggestions. I am also going to put 12" ceramic tile down on the floor. I was thinking of a dark tan/Brown color. Any help would be GREAT! All ideas are welcome even if you do not like mine. I can install everything but coming up with something that matches is SO HARD! Go Figure.... Another picture from the opposite side...... http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/90/kitchen3bs4.jpg
Need recommendations for online vendors of kitchen faucets / fixtures? Home center giants like Lowe's & Home Depot don't have the kinds of designs that I'm seeking. I'd welcome any suggestions, but they need to be online. There are definitely small, specialized kitchen & bath dealers where I live, in the Washington, DC area, but I want to avoid driving all over suburbia to look at their selection.
When remodeling kitchen, how much can an addition cost? We have a standard 9X10 L-shaped kitchen. It's not small but it's not conducive to entertaining as most of our parties end up being kitchen parties. We cannot tear down any interior walls because of the design of the house and other connecting rooms. I was thinking of enlarging the square footage by adding outwards. I understand additions cost a lot, but what is the ballpark figure? I am looking to extend only one wall towards the backyard. It has 4 windows. Vinyl siding. I'm in the Southeast.
What colour should I paint my living room and kitchen? Should I paint the baseboards, or leave them white? My kitchen and living room are connected in a long narrow rectangle. It is a small but bright and sunny space. Our couch is a light charcoal gray and we have a pumpkin orange accents. The floors are pretty neutral. My favorite colour is green, so I was thinking a pale olive green, but I don't want all the the walls the same colour. What should the other colour be? I like contemporary but comfortable design. Any thoughts?
I'm having difficulty designing my new kitchen? My kitchen is small and I am having beech cabinets, what would a black with a touch of blue worktops be like and a black wooden floor and stainless steel appliances. What do you think?
I need interior design advice/direction to make my living area workable. Does Tara Dennis do home visits?gmt? Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings. The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT
What's the proper name for a kitchen that doesn't have a table? Its like the technical "Interior Design" term for what this room would be but I always forget it. Its a kitchen that only can fit the cabinets and stuff, but you can't sit down and eat in it cause its too small. Thanks.
Interior Design Ideas for Kitchen? Hi- We bought a new house and we are currently decorating. I have a long, quite bright and airy kitchen. It has a pine floor and pine cabinets with black surfaces and off white small tiles. This would not have been a look I would have chosen, but we can't afford to re-do the kitchen, so we have to make it work. We have quite a lot of Black kitchenware, which obv goes with the surfaces, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what colour to paint the kitchen to make it tie in more? Other than white, I'm not sure which colour to paint the largest wall. Many thanks.
Should I paint or refinish my kitchen cabinets? My kitchen is very small and "L" shaped. Right now I have the walls painted a sage green color, which I want to keep. My cabinets are plain with no wood designs or anything, and they're stained a very dark, walnut type of color. My floor is vinyl floor tiles in a light beige white marble kind of pattern. My appliances are bisque color. I'm wondering if I should paint my cabinets a cream color, or antique white color or if I should refinish and stain them a lighter wood color - like light oak. I'd rather restain, but I'm also wondering how long it would take to sand down to the natural wood color. Any help would be appreciated because I can't make up my mind.
What would be a good theme for decorating a kitchen that has formica faux butcher block counters? Also, the floor is white vinyl with a faint, small, pink and blue country-ish design near the corners of the faux tile. The cabinets are a medium brown traditional style. There is very little wall space, no space to add any furniture, and there is one window over the sink. I do not have the money to replace the floor or counters and I can't touch the cabinets.
Am i going crazy, or are the people in my life stupid and pointless ? We have a small kitchen, designed for one. And we(me and my ma) have 2 lodgers and a student living with us. I work from 5.45am to 9.45am and i study at home all day(home learning). They're supposed to be out of the house studying and/or working during the day(9am to 4.30/5pm mon-fri) and there's always someone here! Playing their music loudly or hogging the kitchen. I just needed to do some laundry in the kitchen and the lodger was just standing in front of the washing machine making coffee, i can't maneuver around people in that kitchen. So i asked my mum what her schedule is and she just snapped at me and told me that i "Would never get any peace so i should stop moaning!" Am i crazy or is my mum just a stupid, pointless, ignorant cow who should go to hell? By the way i'm 20 years old. Am i crazy, or do i have a point with their schedules? What should i do? THEY SHOULD BE AT SCHOOL!!! I can't concentrate with their inconsiderate noise! I really want to move out but i can't study full-time and work full-time too! I don't have the stamina! Aaah i wish i was dead! I would Have to work full-time to be able to move out. It costs £400 to live in a stinky room in a shared house in the city of Cambridge, U.K! If i wanted a flat or something like that, i would need about £550. Whenever i show any sort of 'bad' emotion, My mum says that i remind her of my dad! My dad is mentally ill, he's an alcoholic, he takes crack cocaine and speed, and he used to beat my mum. She's not a very intelligent woman, she agreed to marry him after he burnt cigarette holes in her arm! And i don't think she has any empathy or much kindness for people in trouble. She makes me think that i'm crazy all the time, she blurs the lines of living for me by saying things like that! I don't know whether i'm crazy or not. She makes me feel bad about myself by comparing me to him. I don't drink, i'm not violent, i don't do drugs, and i listen to other people's problems all day. It's not my fault i look like my father, but if i really remind my mother of him so much then why didn't she just abort me? Why have children with someone you hate, then blame the kids for looking like him? To 'kristinmay'- I never said that i work full time now did i! Read the question properly, illiterate. I SAID that i WOULD have to work full-time to be able to move out!!!

Painting my kitchen hot green....anyone know about interior design? I love bright colors. I want to paint my kitchen bright green. Kind of a lighter bright green...almost like the yahoo answers bars, haha! The problem is I don't know how to transition to the living room and hallway which attach to the kitchen. I don't want the entire house bright green...though I do love a bright, beachy, fun look all over the house. I need suggestions of how to make the whole house look good and bright and fun but not overwhelming. The kitchen is the biggest room in our small ranch style home. Help please!?! Pictures would really help me too~ I'm painting myself and plan on making a home depot trip today or tomorrow. Thanks for the help! Really, Luke? No green? This is the pic I was liking: http://www.lavenderlotusdesign.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/domino-green-kitchen.jpg
Do we NEED a cold air return in a small bedroom? We are remodeling our kitchen which involves tearing down the wall between the kitchen and family room. Unfortunately, the cold air return from our daughter's room upstairs goes down through that wall. Due to the design of the house, we can't see where else to put a cold air return in that room. The room is probably 10' x 10'. We don't know what to do! Any help out there! Thanks!
Best color for kitchen walls, with pink tile? For a guys kitchen. No $$$? Ok, first of all I have a small kitchen and a small budget. My house is very old and the last time the kitchen was remodeled looks like some time in the 50-60s. I just bought stainless steel appliances for the kitchen, to replace the non-working olive green 70s era ones, so there is like no money left. The cabnets are painted white, which are fine for now. The counter top is white with pink flake in the design, eww! The backsplash is all bright pink tiles. The walls are yellow. Since it will be a few years before I can remodel, and this is my first home, I would like any suggestion of a masculine color to paint the wall the would maybe make it not so bad. I was thinking a chocolate brown? Any inputs? A $20 gallon of paint has got to be better than this ugly color scheme. Thanks for any help
Can anyone design or remodel a homeowners home to accommodate aging person or compensate for any disability? My friend wantsstart a small business to paint exterior and interiors of homes, and make small changes or updates to made the homesowners home more disability or aging more comfortable/ and accessible? Such as wider doorways and lower kitchen sinks, build wheelchair ramps.(Texas)
Should I remove a bedroom (walls) to make an open concept design in my home? I am buying a small two story house with 4 small bedrooms and 1.1 baths (1480 SF). The living room and eat-in-kitchen (no dining room) are very small as well. There is a bedroom between my kitchen and living room. I want to remove the walls of the bedroom so I can expand the small kitchen, add a space for an actual dining table and visually bigger living room. Do you think this would look okay? Also I know reducing my bedroom count may affect the resale value. The design of my current house is below. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Here is a link to the schematic of my first floor. Thanks in advance for your help! http://i795.photobucket.com/albums/yy238/rn4life2008/My%20house/1stfloor.jpg I forgot to mention that my house faces north so I get little sun light in my kitchen. I think removing the walls may also provide better lighting in the kitchen. John- thank you for your input. I intend on hiring a structural engineer to find out if they are load bearing or not. My home inspector (with 20+years experience as a home contractor) said he did not think it was load bearing based on the shape of the house (A-frame, I think he mentioned), the fact that it is a brick house and from what he can tell based on the joists in the crawl space. So I am hoping he is correct. Thank you all for your great ideas. My normal family size includes my one-year old son, hubby and myself. Currently, I am housing two family members. My mother is one of them and it looks like she may become a permanent house guest. So considering those factors, I will need to keep at least three bedrooms.
How do I tell my boss I am leaving? I work in the kitchen design industry. I have been in this job for about 3 years. I get phoned, out of the blue, by another kitchen company to ask if I would be interested in a job. This new job would nearly double my wages. The only thing is the job I am in just now is a small family run business with a very close nit staff. I work directly beside my bosses and have built up a great relationship with them, they have treated me like family. What is the best way to approach this? Do i just tell them that i have been offered a new job that pays more or do i tell them it is with another kitchen firm? The money is just too good to turn down. Do I have to put what they think about me out of my mind and just do it? or do I play this another way?
Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!
I need to put up a baby gate in the big 4" opening between my kitchen and living room. The gate is about 3" too short. I wanted to just put 2 2X4s on each end, but hus says it won't "look good" so I need ideas. I was thinking about putting molding around the opening anyway so it is accented anyway, but I'm unsure about how to do it and what design type of molding to use. Our house is a small (1500 sq ft) cap cod. What would look good? All of our molding is painted frost white.
should the kitchen and dining room be decorated the same? I was thinking of a wine and grape design for the kithchen but was not sure if I should keep the same theme for the dining room. They are right next to each other and the dining room is a small space. If I should not decorate the areas the same theme what are some good ideas for the dining room. Pics would help alot!
My kitchens' back splash for the oven? I'm renovating my kitchen and I chose a design to use as my back splash. My brother suggests to put a stainless stain sheet behind the oven as the back splash for it will be easy to clean. I have a small kitchen and I'm not sure if I want to put stainless steel. Is it a good idea?
can some one make a design for me? kitchen is 3 m on2.15... including also table and chairs from light wood, maybe all these cupboards .. Oven , but old one, refregirator metallic colour. Small table, old this where u wash dishes.
Minimum distance from counter to island in kitchen? For my design project, I'm designing a U-shaped kitchen. I plan to put a island in the middle. The island is 2x3 feet. The distance from counter to island is 3 feet(36 inches) on 3 sides. Do you think this would be too tight? I can't make the space bigger without making the island smaller(can't move the walls).
I need some practical and inexpensive decorating ideas for a small ranch house.? The house has three bedrooms, one bath, living room and combination dining and kitchen area. The house was built in the 70's and still has the look. It is very plain, no design details and nothing that can be used as a focal point.
Water heater question? I'm designing some furniture for a small kitchen. However, there is a small water heater in the kitchen and it looks ugly. I was wondering if I could cover it with wood or aluminum louver doors... is this safe? Also, do you know of any good internet sites that might have ideas for small kitchens? Thanks!
Living Room design... dark colors in furniture or rug? I have just gotten a new apartment and am trying to decide options for my living area. It is fairly small and open to the kitchen. I will have black and white photos and more contemporary art on my walls. I want to get a shag rug and a new couch and chairs. Is it better to bring color into the room through the rug or have a black rug and brighter tones in the furniture to make the room look as open as possible.
looking for plans for small kitchn? can you help me lay out a rough plan for a kitchen re-design project for small spaces ?

What is the highest temperature that can be reached in a normal microwave (without putting dangerous items in)? No metal or any other dangerous thing like flammable liquids, etc. . Let's say the microwave runs for 3 minutes, and has a small food item in a microwave-safe bowl inside. This would also be a normal kitchen microwave designed for heating/cooking food, liquids. Let me add that I know that the oven itself doesn't get hot. I am referring to the food or liquid item itself when I ask about temps. Thanks.
Advice & suggestions GREATLY appreciated on decorating a "50's style" kitchen!? My mom is redoing her kitchen in the reminisant of "50's diner" style. We have just started to think about the design and like the bright red, black & chrome/silver look. We are open for ideas on the type flooreing to go with. She has considered the black& white square tiles used in the day, but that seems a bit too much for her. Also, we are stumped on the color for the paint. She has a white tile backsplash on alot of are, so its really only the eating wall the is all painted and then small areas on other walls. Like most open floor plan houses now, the kitchen can be seen from most area in the house. Keeping that in mind, we dont want to go "crazy" into the 50's, just with 50's touches. Any input is of great value.
Can I take vinyl floor tiles and put them over ugly ceramic wall tiles on back splash? The back splash in the kitchen are small glossy tiles, can't paint them. Don't want to have the expense of removing. Would like to take vinyl floor tiles (like the design and cheaper than tile) and put them over the tiles. Is that a problem in general and what would be the best way to do that?
Can you give me ideas/help for decorating single guy's house? I'm a thirty-year-old single guy. I like dogs, the outdoors, my Jeep Wrangler, autumn, good wine, travel, photography... I'm trying to integrate my "likes" into my home. I have painted my living/dining room two colors of khaki, and a chalkboard-green wall. I have a brown leather couch, and walnut tables and bookcases. I've also remodeled my guest bathroom - new flooring, hardware, paint, etc. However, I'm trying to get ideas on decorating... accent pieces, dining room furniture, bedroom furniture (blank slate right now) and my own bathroom. I need help finding websites for "bachelor pads" and masculine design (not a lot of flowery-things). I'd like to redo the kitchen with the small tiles as a backsplash. I'd like to find websites/books/magazines that show off a masculine home. Pictures are a must!! The main goals are to have a cool guy's house and up the resale value. Serious responses only... any help is appreciated. Thanks! As I said, folks... I need pictures, websites, magazines, etc. While I appreciate the suggestions, does no one know of ANY place to LOOK at pictures to get ideas? That's what I'm wanting.
I need a ketchen in the space of 7and half by 7 and half feet? I am living in Mumbai total area of the house is 435 sq feet kitchen is very small. so I need to fit fridge and washing machine in the kitchen so I need a design
How to organize my kitchen? OK.So i live in Yemen and the design of the houses is strange to me as i am an American. The bedrooms don't have closets the bathrooms don't have linen closets or medicine cabinets. The kitchen is my biggest problem there are no cabinets. when i moved in there was just a sink. I had to buy all of the appliances. With that said, i don't have cabinets and i would like to know how to organize my kitchen without cabinets. where to store can goods, dishes, dry foods etc. right now i have everything piled on top of the fridge. another note my kitchen is very small. i don't know exactly the size but if i stretch my arms out i only have a little room left on both sides. PLEASE HELP
Where can I find free home design/layout help - renovation plans? We have a unique 50 year old house that was built without a front door. We'd like to put a door in, and it'll probably have to go in the kitchen (but where?), the kitchen is too small as it currently is, so we're going to move the first floor bathroom somewhere else (but where?). We need help figuring out what our final floorplan should be, and how to do these reno's in stages while still maintaining some order in a 5 family household. Does anybody know where I might find (free) help in coming up with a new layout? Perhaps some school of designing genius's that do this kind of thing as a learning exercise??? (I'm hoping). We'll be doing most of the actual work ourselves (we have friends and family that are carpenters and brick layers), so it's not like we can get design help included as part of a renovation contract.
Where can I buy an apple peeler/corer? I need an apple peeler for a very small food processing plant. It can't be one designed for kitchen use. It has to to go to be the next step.
what is a fair salary for this job? it's a full-time (40 hr) position in a small independent kitchen shop/restaurant. I would be in charge of all purchasing for the retail aspect of the business, developing a new bridal registry program, increasing the scope of product offered by bringing in table linens and dinnerware, etc. to boost the registry, customer service, training 2-3 sales people, receiving all merchandise, checking it in when it arrives, and developing the merchandising/visual plan for the store and windows. I have ten years retail experience, several years as a manager, and several years in merchandising and interior design. Should this be a strict wage/salary position or low salary and high bonus based on performance? I was offered $1600 monthly plus monthly bonuses of 5-25% of the business' increase over last year numbers...I was expecting in the neighborhood of $35K ann. plus small performance bonuses monthly or quarterly.
Please answer....... if your good at interior design (all opinions welcome)? My fiance and I just purchased a house and we will be moving in by the summer. We are now in the process of picking out colours for hardwood flooring, carpet (upstairs), kitchen cabinets, kitchen counter, ceramic tiles in the kitchen, front foyer, 3 bathrooms and the laundry room. He thinks that the dark hardwood will make the rooms seem smaller (they are not small rooms) and wants to go with lighter colours with everything. I like dark hardwood and lighter tile with light kitchen cabinets. Does that sound like it would look good? I was also thinking of a black granite kitchen counter for contrast. yes/no?
Interior Design Issue - Awkward Space - HELP!? Try to picture these dimensions, and please give me ideas...My living room and family room connect (with an archway inbetween) and the rooms are both incredibly narrow and small. The family room connects with the kitchen/breakfast area which is hardwood flooring, and the LR/DR is all carpeting. There is little wall space due to windows and a fireplace....I can't seem to do anything with these spaces - no matter how I arrange furniture, I can't get a comfortable seating area with a TV in either room without it looking strange. I'm at the point where almost everything is removed from both rooms and I'm staring at empty space. Any design ideas from professionals or people who know what they're talking about when it comes to decorating is needed - please don't send links because I've googled this topic to death! Thanks!

Advice or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.... Mom is remodeling to a "50's look" diner kitchen.
How do I get the make the space I have more versatile? (Design genius needed)? My family and I share a 4 bedroom house. One room for my husband and I, one for our son, one for the T.V. room/games/office, and one that began as a sanctuary for me that has become the clutter room. It contains a small couch, a desk, a vanity a sewing machine, two bookshelves and a shelf of CD's. No room for the yoga or other fitness that was supposed to take place there. Our living room is small, and the kitchen is generally in use as a hobby table. Any suggestions to help me get enough room to take 3 steps each way and spread my arms without bumping something? Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking for a little more detail. I've searched for DIY stuff and can't find anything that will work. Our kitchen table already folds into the wall, and we don't have enough seating room when we have guests as it is. My sewing "table" is actually a t.v. tray, and I am not willing to give up my grandmother's vanity. Did I mention upstairs is only 1/2 story, so we have slanted ceilings. Our walls are only vertical to about 4 feet. oops... by more detail, I mean like DIY sites or versatile furniture stores. Like I said, my searches are coming up empty handed. My google-fu is horrid.
are you watching dispatches now on c4? do you think the people are naive or stupid? 'i thought everything house prices would always go up' the narrator said 'they're dreams were only modest just a personally designed kitchen' and people who thought they were getting free money or didn't read the small print.
What's the best thing to do: remodel the kitchen or build a carport? I have to choose between remodelling my kitchen which looks awfully plain and small. The idea is to extend the kitchen to the dining area by adding cabinets and an island (also to be used as an eating table), and a build in washer and dryer. My kitchen is mostly open space and flows directly into the living room. Or to choose building a carport / porch which will be accesible through the kitchen back door. Currently the back porch is just a 5m. by 1m. floor, and uncovered, so when it rains everything out there gets wet. No space to store anything, washer and dryer is out there under the open sky. The carport will need a floor too. I thought about putting bricks. Any ideas, you design gurus out there? Thanks.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate a window without using curtains? I want something unique.? I live in a 100+ year old house and have been trying to decorate and design "outside of the box" and not rely on past favorites like Pier One and Target. I really like bohemian/gypsy type motifs. I want to do something with the windows in my kitchen and bathroom. I don't want to just buy curtains and put them up. I would sew my own if I knew how. I know the type of material I want to use, but am completely clueless on how to transfer the fabric from a square of material to a window treatment of some sort. I hope someone understands my question and gives me a new idea. The fabric I am going with is sheer and shiny. The windows are all small enough to only need one panel of traditional/valance curtains. Correction: I mentioned curtains to give indication of size of my windows.
