We really need a kitchen re-model. How do I sign up to be on HGTV? Hi everyone . Ok , We moved into our house about 5 years ago , and we have tackled almost every single problem the house had ( which was basically every single room) except the kitchen. Here are all the deign dilemmas: 1. its a 70's kitchen 2.tan laminent flooring 3. white run down appliences 4.hole in the wall behind the key holder 5.the cabinets are practically falling off the hinges 6.tan laminent counter tops 7.metal molding around thos counter tops 8.brown/white/gold/tan blacksplash 9.wooden paneling all throught out. 10.terribley scratched up sliding glass door. 11.one section of counter top which has the dishwasher in it , actually separated from the wall and the other counter tops. 12. its small 13. enourmous lack of storage space. 14. lack of light 15. dated appliances. I wanted to sign us up for " Divine Design" if any of you have heard about it. But I visited the hgtv website and was exactly sure how. Can someone help :p?
Suggestions for kitchen cabinets (color and style). ??? In the stages of designing the kitchen for our new home. It is a galley style kitchen. The dining area extends past the kitchen area and I don't want to put any type of bar for eating on the ends of the cabinets. I feel this will only close the area. Since the kitchen/eating and greatroom are an open floor plan, I will be using hardwood through this entire area. I am leaning toward the french cream with a glaze. It will be a small kitchen. So my cabinets will have to be designed to utilize space very efficiently. I will not be able have many upper wall cabinets, and I would like to use glass doors on a few doors to "dress-up" the look. If you can suggest a website to design a kitchen, that would be great. (not the hgtv one, it doesn't help me) Countertop colors??? I will probably use a granite.
design/remodeling computer software? my boyfriend and I are always remodeling our house and knocking down walls. he also flips houses. so our question is what is the best computer software for redesigning. he has his degree in autocad but we would like something similar to what you see on the HGTV shows like "Hidden Potential" and "Spice up my Kitchen". If you have a favorite home design software I'd love to know what it is!! Thank you! still not getting a good answer. please give me names...
Kitchen Remodel: how to find a designer to figure out floorplan? My parents want to enclose their 1-car garage and make it part of the house. Part of this remodel will include re-doing the kitchen, laundry, and creating another living space. They could really use someone to show them what's possible with the space they have - similar to the HGTV shows that give you 3 options at different price ranges. They live near Nashville, TN. Only catch is they aren't mega rich - how much would this type of design service cost? More or less than $2K? And where can they find someone who does this, as opposed to interior design on existing structure? Thanks! Sorry - I didn't mean $2,000 for the whole project! Just for a consultation and a few floorplan drawing options from a designer. They have much more to spend on the actual construction!
Where can I find the funky looking posable multi arm/bulb lamp used in Design On A Dime Ep. 1310 (15 Sept 09)? This lamp was used in the "Sports Themed Bedroom" on Design on a Dime episode 1310 which re-ran on 15 Sept 09. You can see it here: http://www.hgtv.com/decorating/sports-themed-bedroom/pictures/page-3.html and a similar looking one was also used in Colorsplash "High End Modern Italian Kitchen On A Budget" episode which re-ran on 16 Sept 09. Any information anyone is willing to share will be greatly appreciated! Edit to add: I did extensive web-searching (including Target) before I started this enquiry. Again, any information (including what one might call the lamp to aid in searching) will be appreciated!

What's the deal with hardwood floors? So I'm now hooked on watching all these design shows on HGTV, and I've noticed that almost every time they rip up the carpeting from these old houses that they have beautiful hardwood floors underneath. I'm curious....was it common practice when the were building these homes were built to cover up beautiful floors with carpeting, and if so, why were the hardwood floors installed in the first place. I actually have a new construction home built about 5 years ago, and nobody ever said, "Hey with that cat and dog, you might wanna opt for hardwood floors instead of carpet." I'm at the point now where I'm gonna rip up the carpeting and put down hardwoods so I'm also curious that if hardwood was so prevelant back in the day, why is it so expensive now? I live in the Raleigh NC area and I'm also looking to get rid of our laminate countertops in the kitchen for something more environmentally friendly (ie recycled glass countertop) but I actually want to look at it before buying it. The local chain stores only carry the typical granite, quartz, laminate stuff...any advice on where I can go? Not that laminate is unfriendly...it's just that I hate it....and I'm a bit of a green freak.
How to choose colors for new home interior? Hi, I'm in the process of buying a new home and am thinking about what colors to paint the rooms, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, kitchen, and living room. The house is on the small side, so I've heard that I should use mostly light colors to make it look bigger. I really like the way rooms look when they have one color on the top half of the wall and one color on the lower half, or three walls painted one color, and the fourth wall painted a second color, and in both cases the window trim painted a third (usually white) color. http://www.thedesigncollectivegroup.com/interior-design/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/color-walls1.jpg http://img.hgtv.com/HGTV/2006/08/21/hst105_vt_david_partition_2_lg.jpg I know the 'look' I'm going for, I just can't seem to find colors that I'm happy with. Can anyone help me choose colors that would go well together? Blue is the only color I know I want to have in at least one of the rooms, but I can't decided on a shade either. The exterior of the house is white, and the front door is red. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What color should I paint my walls? I'm having trouble on picking colors that will flow from room to room. I live in an apartment and would like to paint the walls. When you enter the foyer you can see the living room, kitchen and dining room. I would say my style is contemporary. I want the apartment to look chic and glam but classy and sophisticated at the same time. In the living room I have blue furniture (royal blue) with black and white accessories. For the kitchen I was thinking a bright green. I really like the "Kelly Green" I found on the HGTV website. Maybe, even an acid-green and bring in white and black accessories to tie it in with the living room. The apartment has white appliances, dark counter tops (corian I think?), light colored wood cabinets, and a medium color wood floor. Or, I would like to paint the kitchen red (I'm really open to anything). In the dining room I have a huge sunburst mirror with gold trim and I would like to design around that. I like gold and bronze colored walls but in the living room I have silver and black lamps and silver on the coffee table and side tables. I also don't know what to paint the living room walls. I was leaning towards a light gray but I don't think it will look good if I do green in the kitchen... HELP!
What does it mean for a person to go up in equity? I just finished watching an episode of Income Property on HGTV with host Scott McGlively. It's the show where tehy renovate a basement apartment into a bachelor's apartment. It was a really nice design--they painted the walls a light yellow, laid zebra print wood panels on the floor, and installed new fixtures in the kitchen and bathroom--which contained a stall. The yellow walls really made the room alive. Anyway, on the show, when he was talking to the red-headed woman and her husband, he told them something like(to paraphrase) they went up in equity. I've seen other shows on HGTV where they say --the homeowner's equity went up. Anyway, at the end of the show, they said that convertign the basement into an apartment added 80,000 to their house in value. My question is--what does it mean when they say -- a person went up in equity or the equity increased? Does this mean that they got more than they invested or will reap a huge profit compared to the amount they invested or just that the value of their property/investment went up?
