Is it better to buy kitchen appliances before Christmas or after? When are they more likely to be cheaper? Hi I have bought a new Kitchen. And am about to buy appliances. Stainless Look Appliances - Cheap Looking or Innovative? I'm purchasing all new appliances for my kitchen. I like the look of stainless steel, but fear my two kids (ages 7/3) will do a number on them in the way of finger prints. While I'm open to going the Stainless "Look" option, I fear that it might be considered a "cheap" alternative. Is that true? I do consider this remodelling project an investment and would hate to have a beautiful new kitchen with cheap looking appliances. Personally, I think they look very nice. I guess it's more of a perception that I'm after. Any ideas?
kitchen appliances? I am looking for the cheapest place to find kitchen appliances...including a dishwasher, built in freezer/fridge, gas cooktop, microwave, and double ovens. I want them to be of good quality that will last a long time, and name brand
resale for replacing kitchen appliances...? im thinking of putting my house on the market soon and my wife and I cant seem to agree on replacing our kitchen appliances, right now they do not match and are quite dated. I think it would be worth buying a cheap matching set of stainless appliances and she thinks we should just let them go. So I'm wondering if it would be better to replace them, not replace them, or putting a contengency in the contract for new appliances.
Kitchen Appliances? Does anyone know of a good place to get cheap dishwashers. I like the Stainless Steel Kitchen Aid with the buttons hidden.
What is the cheap, yet attractive way to replace kitchen cabinets? I have these cabinets in a house that I bought that were made back in the 1980's (1984) and they are this white vinyl with wood trim on both ends of the cabinet doors, the insides are flimsy pre-fab material that is warped and water damaged. Needless to mention that they all need replacing... The appliances are okay, and have been updated, but will probably rip out when a new kitchen cabinets have been installed.. My question is this, Could I save money (I'm on a low budget), by buying some kind of attractive cabinetry (not necessarily for the just the kitchen, but something that is strong and durable and attractive), pay someone to install, and just buy a freestanding stove and microwave... Anyone have any different ideas on how to save on a much needed to be replaced kitchen??
Electrical appliance shops? Appart from Currys, where else can I buy cheap kitchen appliances from in Northern Ireland? Laser is very expensive compared to currys
chefs & kitchen pro's everywhere, what kitchen / cooking appliances do you recommend to invest on? Hi! I am finding im really enjoying cooking, but most of what i have is cheap and cheerful in the way of appliances and things used to cook. I cant afford to deck out my kitchen with all the latest gadgets etc... but i slowly want to get better quality items. I want to experiment with pretty much everything there is to cook, as i enjoy new things. Some people say to spend alot on your pots and pans... some say to invest in upper-quality knives, others say buy a great stove and it doesnt matter what pots n pans you use..... so i need some professional advice! top three recommendations for: A: Items that in your opinion, need to be the best for great cooking B: Splurges that you dont neccessarily need but are fab & convenient C: recommended brands D: any other advice for a budding cook :-)
Cheap / easy ways to update an older rental house? i am renting a house that is a bit outdated.. i was wondering if anyone has any quick fix ideas for the outdated kitchen (ugly cabinets/appliances/no dishwasher), floors (blue carpet/vinyl tile) and bathrooms (PINK wall / floor tiles), wood panel wainscoting....the landlord said we can do whatever we want as long as we pay for.. the rent is so cheap i dont mind putting a little money into it because i will be here for awhile. in your opinion where should we spend the money to get the most for it (looks wise)? any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks!
survey..please help due tomor? agree or dont 1. buying expensive kitchen appliances saves money as years go by then buying cheap kitchen appliances. 2. letting the people who work at the store take the appliances to you and place it into your home is more safe and less cheap. 3. using the work triangle will help more. 4. making a list before buying kitchen appliances helps a lot.

Kitchen appliance trend: What should I do? I am remodeling my kitchen. The cabinets will not be changed but the counter top, the floor and the walls are being redone. I will be using either granite or quartz for the counter. Tile floor and back splash. Painted walls. My dilemma: my appliances are fairly new....but bisque in color. EVERY new kitchen I see in magazines, etc has stainless appliances, which I was not originally crazy about but I've grown to like (somewhat) perhaps because I'm now used to seeing them. I'll be spending around $20 thousand (maybe more) for the redo, which is more than I originally wanted to spend. I am agonizing over the appliances. Will I regret not replacing the appliances if I keep the bisque? I don't know. Will a remodel without replacing the appliances look cheap? (There is nothing wrong with what I have). Or is it money wasted if I buy new? I realize I can keep them and buy new later if I change my mind. However, the color choices I make NOW are, in part, influenced by the appliances. My other fear is that I could buy the stainless now only for the trend to change AGAIN. I've noticed an increasing amount of black out there, too. If you were me...what would YOU do? (I'm not rich...but I have some money to play with---but there are ALWAYS other places that money could go---other projects or better yet....in my savings account). Advice?
Anyone used Alkor Softmetal Stainless Steel adhesive for appliances??? I would like to know if Alkor Softmetal Stainless Steel adhesive really looks good when put on kitchen appliances or if it looks like a piece of cheap film over them. I wouldn't want to buy something that will look cheesy but if if looks like real stainless steel then why not? Any comments would be appreciated.
How can I improve the look of the kitchen cabinets? Light oak, the usual cheap stuff the home builder put. I'd like to paint or stain them. The backsplash and the counters are light beige tile (with a brown, cream, beige, neutral trim) and the appliances are black. Thanks for your help!

Approximate cost to rewire an entire house's electric? We have an older house, and I'd like to know what it would cost (approx) to rewire the entire house. It's a 1 story, with access to the attic, where I presume all the wiring runs. We have a circuit breaker (220?) with some available slots. There are 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom, each room with a 'standard' number of outlets (4-8?), one ceiling light in each room. We don't have a GFCI outlet in the bathroom or kitchen. I don't know if that has anything to do with the wiring, but we'd need those installed. The wiring is currently pretty jacked up - all the kitchen appliances and the far bedroom electricity is on the same line, for example. It's a mess. I've also seen some of the wiring and it's the old, old fabric-wrapped wire. I'd like this to be done by a licensed electrician - rather it be done right than cheap (though both would be great!) Thanks for any insight!
Need 2 week cheap grocery list, 2 adults, using these kitchen tools..? ....no stovetop/oven range; have one electric hotplate, toaster, microwave, toasteroven, and refrigerator/freezer. Just moved in and exhausted; normally I can plan this myself but it's late and want to get to the market early tomorrow....sooo, Don't need 3 squares a day; just simple foods using those appliances, allowing for high California temps. Local shopping here is: Food4Less, Stater Bros, WalMart and 99cOnly. Appreciate your answers so I can take a break here.

Kitchen Remodel? I will be replacing kitchen appliances as part of a remodel shortly and hate the idea of scraping my "gently" used (ok, 3yr old) range/microhood/dishwasher. Any idea of the best way to get some cash out of them. It doesn't seem practical to sell these items on eBay. I also do not want to replace my frig but want a good way to change the color on the doors. New doors from Sears (it's a Kenmore) are a FORTUNE. Any ideas on cheaper option to get stainless look on the doors? I live in the east bay (N. California).
Can anyone suggest a good but not too expensive inter-grated double oven and hob? I am in the process of having a new kitchen installed and would like inter-grated appliances, not the cheapest of the cheap but nothing that will break the bank!
Relocating from NZ to South Africa mid-year. What is the cheapest way to move my house pack? Kiwi moving from Auckland (NZ) to Joburg (ZA). Any suggestions regarding shipping companies, etc. I have about two small rooms worth of gear (Dining suite, bedroom suite, desktop computer, furniture, bedding, 2 double wardrobes worth of clothing, small kitchen appliances).
Using an American Kitchen Appliance in Australia...? Hi, I am looking into buying a Kitchen Aid Mixer from the USA off Ebay (obviously because they are alot cheaper). My question is, on the listing it mentions I will need my own transformer to use it overseas, I am assuming this is for the voltage. What is the official name of a voltage transformer? Has anyone else had any luck in using an American appliance in Australia? I have read that because I will be using the voltage transformer it may run slower, is this true? The saving is about $130, do you think it is worth the hassle? Thanks for your help :)
help with english please (I didn't use the kitchen)? I didn't use the kitchen, but would nice to have for a longer stay -- quality appliances vs. the cheaper hotel-type "kitchenette" set up that one might expect to find. ----------------------------------------- quality appliances vs. the cheaper hotel-type "kitchenette" set up that one might expect to find.<< Please explain this part in other words. I have the ugliest 60s/70s kitchen! help!!? Well I live in a flat and the kitchen is down right ugly. The problem with it is the counter tops/cabinets. They are the cheap things that you see in low income apartments built in the 70s. It has the white gold speckled plastic counter tops, with real ugly dull poop brown cabinets. The cabinets are in good shape but my landlord has told me that I cannot paint them :(. My appliances are new, but they are white and kind of dull cheap looking ones as well. The flooring is completely bad, its real cheap plastic flooring that I think was meant to look like rock flooring, but it went way wrong. What the hell can I do to make my kitchen appear to be more..modern? Attractive? Anything? I can paint the walls if that helps. I am willing to do almost anything I have spent 4 months with this kitchen and I just cant take another day of it!
Painting press-wood veneer cabinets white but have almond appliances? We a just bought a 4-plex that was built in the mid 80's. 2 of the units are in pretty bad shape and I want to make the place look as good as possible with out investing too much money. Currently it has the ugly walnut colored veneer plain cheap cabinets. I want to paint them white to give the illusion of a larger kitchen but most of the appliances are the original 80's almond. Has anyone done this? Did it look okay with the almond appliances? Can you send me a link to your pics if possible? Also I am open to any ideas you might have in regards to painting the cabinets with almond appliances.
Do manufacturers produce cheaper versions of their products sale at walmart? my friends have had bad luck with stuff they've bought there (everything from kitchen appliances, electronics and jeans), and insist that everyone from sony to levi's produces cheaper knockoffs of their products, so that walmart can sell it cheaper. I think they're nuts. is there any evidence or truth to support this?
Should I get a milk shake mixer or a good blender to make malts/shakes? I only have a cheap blender and I can not make a thick or even semi thick shake with it. So I would like to know if I should get a milkshake mixer like this... http://cgi.ebay.com/RETRO-HAMILTON-BEACH-DRINK-MIXER-MILKSHAKE-MAKER-Chrome_W0QQitemZ190261133886QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSmall_Kitchen_Appliances_US?hash=item190261133886&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 or should I just get a good blender from Walmart or somewhere??
whats a "cheap" price on a house? how cheap does a house get? whats "expensive" in house talk? what would you guess a house with: a nice sized master bed, big/medium sized bath modern appliances bought within 5-6 years. a kitchen with a large counter space or a island with appliances bought within 5-6 years/modern. and a house with wood floors through most of it? would it be cheaper to build a house or to buy a nice house that needs a spritz of remodeling here or there? as far as remodeling how much would you think this would be (if needed):knocking out a wall or adding french doors or fixing a few cracks maybe redoing a kitchen and bath,if remodeling isn't needed, adding some puhzaz if? is it cheaper to buy a fixer-upper and redo it?
Are we crazy to buy a bank owned home that needs a lot of updates? My husband and I have been looking at houses for the past year or so (nothing serious) but we rarely can find a house we can agree on. He found a bank owned home listed for $75000, three bedroom one bath, 1.5 stories, three out buildings and not to mention the 2.98 acres. This thing needs a lot of cosmetic work... new siding, new carpet, new drywall in most rooms, new windows. It also doesnt come with any appliances. I am not happy with the kitchen, although the cabnets are new, they look cheap and I dont even think they installed them correctly. It is also in the country so it needs a water softner. The monthly payment for this thing would only be about 200 more than what we are paying now, but we really wont have that much extra money to play around with regarding fixing the place up as fast as I would like (with-in the first year). My husband is a carpenter do he could so a lot of the repairs. Is this a good idea? I am scared that there are just too many repairs. Any ideas?
Whats a good wedding gift for parents of the groom? My stepson is getting married this year and we can no way compete with the money his fiance's parents have. They are giving the newlyweds a kitchen make-over complete with appliances. What can we give that won't seem cheap in comparison?
Cost of fixing up mobile home? Estimate please? I am looking at purchasing a small 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom single wide mobile home, 14x70. The mobile home is 31 years old and is all original and has been mostly gutted, it needs: - New kitchen (cabinets, appliances) - New bathroom (tub/toilet are already there, but bathroom needs to be re-tiled etc) - New flooring - New drywall (entire house, including ceiling) - New electrical - New plumbing - New heater (old heater was removed) - Roof needs to be re-done - Vinyl siding needs to be re-done - New tiedowns needed for mobile house Basically everything needs to be redone, except for the wood structure. So a complete re-build. My question is, considering the size of it (remember it's only 70x14), how much would this cost roughly? Just a ballpark # if I were to hire contractors to do the whole job for instance (seperated into a materials+labour cost would be great). Also is it worth doing all of this, or should I just put a new home on it? The thing is I think 31 years old is not that old and the cost of moving a new mobile home will be very expensive. Keep in mind when quoting I am looking for VERY basic items.... no special stuff. Cheap counters, white appliances (used from craigslist probably), cheap laminate flooring, no expensive fixtures. Just want it do be solid construction, doesnt need to look pretty. Thanks
kitchen update.. need colour and remodel help!? i am a bit of a country woman at heart and the rest of my home is slightly neutral colours and i want my kitchen to be warm and inviting. the current colours are powdery blue walls, warm slate gray countertops and white cabinets. the cabinets are falling apart and have cheap grey handles which match the countertop. the floor is white and blue tiles that i would love to replace with ceramic but cannot afford it. can anyone suggest colours for the walls and an alternate flooring possibilty and maybe backsplash ideas. we have white appliances as well. also need a way to repair the countertop hopefully not replacing it as we have limited funds entering this project. thank you. also a tip for fixing/replacing the doors and drawers is helpful. they are falling apart.
Any advice on renovating a house? My husband and I are thinking about buying a house but we are on a tight budget. I would like to buy a cheap home and renovate it along the way while we live in it. We will need to put a new roof on it right away, and it needs a kitchen....counters, cupboards, appliances, all of it. Does anyone have any advice on what renovations should be done first, someone with personal experience would be preferred.
I am moving to a place without a kitchen. I need help buying some basic cooking supplies .? I am a single young guy trying to live on the cheap so i can save money. I found a very inexpensive place, but it has no kitchen unit. I dont mind that so much, as I normally do not cook. I cant go out to eat every night though, so I will need some way of preparing/heating my own food from time to time. I do own a minifridge, but i need a basic microwave and perhaps a rice cooker (even the idea of making my own rice seems a bit intimidating (im sure i can do it wrong)). Are handheld blenders any good? Any recommendations on these appliances would be helpful. I guess I might need a small toaster as well...Gahh...so many things to think about. Not looking for anything fancy, just reliable stuff for my quick meals and shakes. thanks thanks so much for the replies. All of a sudden I am hit with the reality that theres a lot of better options than microwave dinners/easting out all the time. Im definitely a noobie as far as meal preparation, but i suppose one of the best ways to save money is making my own meals. That being said, I cant really buy too many kitchen appliances, as I dont want to have too much clutter in my small space. Actually what would be more realistic is some kind of combination unit like a toaster/microwave or a coffeemaker/toaster/egg grill i have seen in certain places. The electric kettle and the croc pot are great suggestions as well. Soup can be a really great cheap meal and Im sure I will be having lots of it. Thanks everyone and more suggestions are welcome
i need help with my kitchen!!? i need a color scheme for my kitchen. and i CANT color the walls, they are white...everything is white, i'm in an apt. so i cannot color the walls. but what can i do to make it look modern? i want it to be kinda femine, but i'm living wid my boyfriend so i dont know. i was thinking maybe appliances in a certain color...or draperies for the window? what can i do? any links would be very helpful, and i need this done for cheap!! thanks!! and btw...we are in our 20s
What should I do with my cabinets? They are faux wood laminate!? My townhouse was built in 1986 and has ugly cabinets. The cabinets are particle wood with a faux wood laminate. The laminate is this ugly dark brown color with wood grains in it, it looks hideous next to my new white appliances. My husband and I might rent out our townhome, so we don't want to invest too much money in the kitchen. (What if the tenants trash the place?) How can we give the cabinets a face lift? Should we just take them out and put cheap cabinets in that look better? What can we do?
Kitchen paint color? I am in the process of renovating my kitchen and need some advice. I've already purchased the cabinets in this picture: http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w100/rraeyn/cabinets.jpg but there's a dark grey-brown grain that runs through them you can't see in the photo. My dilemma is this: I adore the cabinets, but I hate "country" and I'm having a hard time coming up with a granite counter/tile floor/wall color combo that will make them look more modern. I don't want white walls. Any ideas? My appliances are stainless and black. The kitchen is not terribly large and the only window faces a brick wall a few feet away, so there will be little natural light. I have pot lights in the ceiling, one main center light, and under-cabinet LED lighting. Also, I am limited in my granite choices to the cheapest ones, so I'm leaning towards something black(ish) with flecks of green or maybe brown. Just to clarify, the photo I posted above is not of MY kitchen. It's a picture I got from the website of the cabinet manufacturer, just to show the type and (approximate) color of the cabinets. My kitchen currently doesn't even have walls, so I'll be starting with bare drywall.
What Valentines Day Gift Are You? Which Valentine's Day gift would you like? To determine your personality, pick the gift you'd most like to receive.... 1. Candy 2. Flowers 3. A sweet poem 4. Sex 5. Dinner/Dancing 6. Waffle iron 1. CANDY It means that... You are a sweet person who enjoys traditional gifts and hopefully likes to share. OR... You're a selfish chocoholic who values a sugar high over everything, even true love. 2. FLOWERS It means that... You love the beauty of nature, the scent of flowers and appreciate this timeless romantic gesture. OR... You get some twisted joy out of watching vegetation wither and die. 3. A SWEET POEM It means that... You're a hopeless romantic, a cultured person who recognizes the power and beauty of the written word. OR... You're used to cheap gifts and like to pass yourself off as a cultured person who recognizes the power and beauty of the written word. 4. SEX It means that... You are a passionate soul, a free spirit who is not afraid to express your sexuality with another consenting adult and feel that the physical side of love can be meaningful and beautiful. OR... You're a filthy degenerate who is no better than a rutting animal living solely for one carnal experience after another. 5. DINNER/DANCING It means that... You enjoy the company of that special someone and the romantic setting of fine cuisine and candlelight. OR... You're easy to please and probably willing to sell your body for food and a few quick turns around the dance floor. 6. WAFFLE IRON It means that... You're a practical person who believes in gifts that you can actually use. OR... You have absolutely no idea of what gift-giving is all about and probably have some sort of deviant fetish involving kitchen appliances.
I'm buying a new home and only have a rice cooker, ...? a panini maker and fondue set...other than that I need to buy everything...couches, tv, radio, pots, plates, towels, etc... Does anyone know what the best kitchen appliances are? What brand? I don't want to buy cheap things, I would rather buy quality items for my home. Also...there is a brand new white Maytag stove, should I stick to white or sell it and get stainless steel? Please help...I get my keys this week!! These are great suggestions. Yes, buying everything brand new would cost an arm and a leg.
Why does the gov allow corps to move jobs overseas causing unemployment PLUS bails THEM out when we're broke? I am so fed up wtih the way things are unfolding yet the people do not protest, they take the karp that is thrown at them. what is going on? Nike pays employees a few cents/hour overseas (instead of paying an American let's say $10/hr) yet they still charge more for their products than clothes made in the US. Same with computer manufacturers, toys, kitchen appliances - every business we have the company will open overseas so they hire cheap labor. Or if they are already in the US they freely fire everyone overnight then pack up and head either south of the boarder (like Hughes Aircraft did, laying off both my aunts who had worked for them 20 years), or go overseas. Why does the government allow this, then never discusses WHY there is suddenly so much unemployment, just that oh i feel sorry for y'all but in the meantime I still have to raise taxes.
How to split costs in college apartment. please help!? There are two other girls in our suite style apartment. Julie has agreed to buy the entertainment system and has already bought most of the kitchen appliances. She also wants to buy the TV and but not buy any of the living/dining room furniture. Julie thinks that the other room mate and I should split the costs of the furniture. The thing is, all of the things Julie is buying can be taken to her home after college. I will not be able to do anything with the crappy furniture after college- because who wants crappy furniture? In my opinion, it would be better to spend $1000 on the TV and kitchen utensils than $300 of furniture. I feel like the other room mate and I are being taken advantage because she gets to buy the things that can be used after college. Should I just shut up and pay for the cheap furniture or stand up to her and try to work something else out? Any suggestions for a good outcome in this situation would be greatly appreciated.
RENT A CABIN / RENT A ROOM ???? RELOCATABLES? I would like to rent a cabin. Im not sure if this is exactly what these small homes are called, but I remember a friend of mine had one quite a few years back. They are a small one to two bedroom cabin/room which you can lease and put in your own backyard. They dont have to have a shower or kitchen appliances but just a seperate room as well as maybe a lounge. It is similar to a caravan but a bit more spacious. I need one which will rent or sell cheap. Does anyone know any companies which does this? Or any cheap second hand caravan companies? Something ideal for a teenager, a teenage retreat to put in the back yard which wont cost too much ! Thanks :-)

Can costs for a fixer-upper be included in the monthly mortgage payments? If we find a really cheap beat-up home, a fixer-upper, can the costs for fixing it up be included in a mortgage? Say we get pre-approved for $150,000 but we find a house that's only $50,000 but it's missing major kitchen appliances like a fridge and a stove, possibly missing the washer/dryer, and even toilet/shower, could those major necessities of a home that have to be purchased be included in the mortgage? What about costs for an addition on the home? or smaller fixes like flooring or cosmetic things? We don't have much money saved, but there are so many cheap HUD/REO homes available that would cost us less than what we're paying in rent. Most of them are in pretty bad shape, usually stripped by the previous owners, with holes everywhere. Can we take the entire $150,000 that we are pre-approved for and fix up the house with it and then pay the monthly mortgage? Or, do they only give you the loan amount for the exact purchase price of the home and nothing else? Thanks, Mr. Fix It, what if the home is worth a lot more than it's going for, being that the bank is only interested in receiving the amount of cash that was left over from the previous owners in these HUD/REO homes, then would a lender be willing to at least lend what the house is actually worth? Say the house is being sold by the bank for $50,000 but it is actually worth $80,000, would a lender let us take out an $80,000 mortgage in order to use $30,000 to fix it up?
What are some good things to ask for as wedding gifts? My wedding is August 15th and my mom wants a good list of things that my fiance and I want/need. We aren't exactly sure what to ask for and we don't want to be rude. We are 18 and have a daughter due any day now. We have everything we need for the baby. Our apartment isn't big, but we've furnished it well so we don't really need any furniture. We've got fairly cheap dishware that can break and it won't be a big deal (since we'll have a little one around now) I really don't know what to ask for. Our list consists of a few kitchen appliances and scrapbook/photo craft items (because I like to do crafts and stuff with photos and decorate our house with family pictures) What else would you suggest?
A question about cooking in a crock pot or deep fryer? When I moved out on my own one of my first kitchen appliances after a toaster, microwave, and a coffee maker was a deep fryer. Though I bout it, I barely used because I don't eat many fried foods. It was probably just cheap at the time. Anyway, my girlfriend moved in with me and she is wanting to buy a crock pot for us. I told we don't need one because I have that barely used deep fryer. This may seem like a weird question. If the deep fryer is clean and free of sediment can it not be used as a crock pot? Can't she fill that with broth or water? Can't she make soup or whatever in it? Isn't a deep fryer functionally the same thing as a crock pot (and vice versa)? I don't really know. Sorry for the typos. Thanks for all you help. I want to chose a best answer but all of the answers are really good. I'm gonna have to allow this one to come to a vote. thanks.

Question about a place I'm about to rent in MO? My friend and I will be moving in together end of June. We've been looking for 1 month and are focusing on homes, townhouses, condos and duplexes; no apartments. We've found a condo in an extremely nice neighborhood where, according to citydata.com, has a median income of $77,000. The condo community is located in the middle of 2 home community where the average home price is $350,000. There is a historical mansion worth $2.5 mil located in the neighborhood as well. The place is 2 bd, 3 1/2 bth, 1600 sq ft, sunken living room, 4 storage areas, 3 levels, 2 balconies, finished basement, stainless steel kitchen appliances, hardwood and carpeted. It's $1000 monthly including ALL utilities with the stipulation that electric never goes over $90 or we pay the monies over. I feel that $1000 including utilities is very, very cheap for this neighborhood and sq fttg. Should the price be a red flag? Also, I've been told that we're making a decision too quickly and early since we are planning on moving end of June. Is end of April decision too soon for end of June move? Thanks John and Delilah! I knew I'd forgotten to ask something! When we meet him tomorrow, I'll ask if rent will be the same after our 12 months are up. We wouldn't mind a small increase of about $50 or less. We both LOVE the place and area. He's not charging pet deposit or rent. It's just an amazing deal so it causes me to be skeptical. But maybe I'll learn to see this just as it is, an amazing deal and not a scam of some kind.
HELP with Kitchen Cabinets!? okay, so i am buying a foreclosure. the people that got booted decided to give it to the bank by taking a few things, like the closet shelves, the crown molding, and oh, yeah, the ENTIRE KITCHEN. okay, not all of it. they left the bottom cabinets, minus the doors, and the granite countertops. we are now left with the basic structures of bottom cabinets, granite countertops, and that's it. so obviously we need to replace the cabinets and get appliances. so here's the question... what do we do first? is it okay to get the appliances so we can at least move in and have a functioning kitchen? will we be able to put in the cabinets after the appliances? or should we really just get the cabinets done first, and then get appliances. also, do we have to get custom cabinets, or are cabinets pretty standard in size (the spaces for the appliances are pretty much standard). what about the bottom cabinets? can we just find some matching doors to replace them with or do we have to suck it up and completely start from scratch. we don't have an unlimited budget, so cheaper is better! thanks in advance.
DHL is cheaper? or freight company is cheaper? want to import kitchen appliances from South Korea... will be more than 100 pounds. DHL is cheaper? or freight company is cheaper?
How much would a small kitchen cost? I'm moving into a new home in RI and there's a finished basement downstairs that used to be rented out as an apartment. I'd like to do the same, but the previous owner gutted the kitchen to open up a bigger living room space. I'd like to put a small one back in- Nothing huge, but nice. Very small, maybe two or three cabinets, a sink, (maybe) a couple overhead cabinets, a very small square footage of tiling and the basic appliances? I'm on a budget, so what's the cheapest I could do this for, where it doesn't look like a cardboard kitchen? Thanks!
Remodelling kitchen. Should I hire a Certified Kitchen Planner? I'm going to do a moderate kitchen renovation. We're keeping the same floor plan, but would like to replace the cabinets, counters, floor + appliances. It's not going to be some fancy european gourmet kitchen . . just a 2008 version of what is already there. Given the limited electrical and plumbing work, I'm fairly confident I can direct much of the work myself. I have considered hiring a "Certified Kitchen Planner", but have no idea of their rates or fees or if they add much value. I've heard that they get substantial disounts from cabinet makers. If they can give me the plan, I'm happy to shop around for the best cabinets and manage the remodelling myself. Has anyone done this??? Is it cheaper/better to just go to Lowes or Home Depot (as in, is the full package deal that a high volume dealer like Home Depot better than something an independant certified kitchen planner can provide)?
What would be the best way to maintain a kitchen? I usually stay up all night, and infomercials play like crazy,There are always these new kitchen gadgets that do different things,i was wondering,if i replaced the stove by using other appliances that do the same functions, would the electric bill be cheaper?(im not looking for ways to cut an Electric bill, just curious if this would work)i figured if you used a griddle, geoge foreman, crockpot, ect to replace the stove that the food would not only be healthier, faster, cheaper and easyier to replace, but also maybe cheaper electric bills aswell considering you can unplug them, if you remove the stove all together thats considerable space for an area to store the appliances, and then use the top to cook on,i asked an electric use website, but so far no responce
How far can $5000 go to update a kitchen? My husband and I just bought a house in Herndon, Va. The house was built in 1983, and I think EVERYTHING is original to the house. The kitchen has never been updated. The shelves inside bow towards the middle and the toe kick on the bottom of the shelves and the island are missing pieces. Overall it looks totally ugly. I think the cabinets are cheap laminate and particle board although I am not 100% certain of this. I like the layout, so we don't need a renovation, but I would like to replace the cabinets, put down laminate flooring and replace the countertops with something affordable/durable. Do you think this is possible with a $5000 budget (including installation? Our kitchen size is pretty small. I'd say 10x10, or slightly bigger. The only appliance we plan on upgrading is the dishwasher. What do you think? Thanks.
Buying an apartment in sunny beach, Bulgaria - Question for the locals? I am looking to buy an apartment in Sunny Days 6 development, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria and I have several questions, ideally directed to people who live there. 1) Have you seen any marketing for this complex and if so what sort of prices are they charging either per m2 or for a 1 bed apartment, any special offers? I am hoping that if I can catch the developer out with a deal that he doesn’t think I know about I may get it cheaper. 2) How much do things like kitchen appliances and furniture cost in your country? I realise that is like saying how long is a piece of string however roughly what would you expect to pay for an electrical shop own brand product instead of a high end Sony or SMEG brand. I hope that makes sense, but roughly what would you expect to pay for the following, getting a reasonably decent product but with out spending silly money? Fridge freezer Oven and Hob Washing Machine Dining table and chairs Sofa bed and arm chair Double Bed and mattress Bedroom furniture, eg chest of draws, bed side table, wardrobe etc. The place I am buying has furnature packs for sale, but it would cost me less to buy what they are offering in the UK let alone Bulgaria. So I am thinking of just buying the things myself when I first visit the apartment and wanted to get an idea of price Many many thanks to all the serious replies and to the silly ones at least try and make them funny Thanks Neil
How Do You Order A New Kitchen? ? My mum wants a new kitchen and has asked me to get quotes and order it, but I have Absolutely no idea what to do. She wants a complete kitchen, carcases, doors, handles and bench top. The main piece will be L Shape and then another cupboard pantry with a space for the fridge. She already has the appliances (sink, oven, hotplate, a fan thing, microwave & fridge). So do I just measure these and tell the people where we want them to go and what sort of cupboards we want where or do we have to select certain cupboards and try and fit them in best we can? Also any dimensions of anything will help e.g. how much is the bench top suppose to come over the cupboards, how high is the bench top suppose to be? Any info that will help me when I'm trying to order it is greatly appreciated. Also she only wants to spend $3,000 and wants it done within the next month. Will it be cheaper or easier to get it made or to buy those ones that are pre-made and screw them together ourselves? xx jackie
First offer on a house? I'm looking to buy my first home. The area is basically having a fire sale on homes. Tons of foreclosures. So it has pushed the price of homes way down. The house I'm looking at has a 2-3 year old roof. Bathrooms redone with tile, new toilets, sinks and cabinets. It also has new carpet throughout(the cheapest carpet they could find). It comes with kitchen appliances- dishwasher, stove, fridge. All are fairly new. The house is a 3/2/1 1350sqft on .25 acre. The garage was basically converted to a workshop though. I will need to rip out all the built in benches and tables before i can park my car there( I know, I know I actually use it for what was built for). The kitchen also looks like it's stuck in the 80's(big money to update). Overall it's in good condition. They are asking 69,900(I told you it was depressed, lol). My Real Estate Agent said in this market I should ask for the world. Is 20% off their price and asking for closing too much? for anyone wondering. It's in Florida. Right now lots of people are trying to get out. You can find foreclosed homes that have been on the market for years dirt cheap, and neighborhoods of new homes nearly abandoned because of all the foreclosures. It is starting to recover though. I plan on buying a condo/townhouse after the first of next year for an income property. Lots of people need a place to live, but just don't have the credit anymore for a mortgage.
Whats the best and possibly the cheapest way to transport some heavy cargo from UK to Slovakia? If I have to transport some heavy cargo like kitchen appliance from United Kingdom to Slovakia what would be the best and possibly also cheap way to do it...??
Why consumer products are much cheaper in US than in Canada? I'm talking about kitchen appliances, electronic, computers, etc.
Birthday gift options - camera flash or secondary camera? Here's the deal: My birthday is coming up, and my parents are asking me what I want. I have about a $300 limit, so consider that. I have a Point and Shoot superzoom with a hot shoe, and I have the option to get a flash and diffuser for my birthday. On the other hand, I could also go with a cheaper P&S that I could keep in my purse - I can't tell you how many times we've been out and I've wanted a camera on hand! With the left over money, I would finally get a new purse that doesn't have a nice olive oil stain on it (two toddlers + Olive Garden = oh dear God!) Of course, there are only two options: 1) Flash 2) Cheaper camera as secondary + purse Of course there are other options (PDA, steam cleaner, kitchen appliances, etc), but these are the top ones I've been considering. Any suggestions? A few more details I may have left out: 1) I'm a working mom with two kids - since I'm a single mom in the evenings, we go out quite often. 2) I take a LOT of pictures with my superzoom (Canon SX10 IS). Love it. However, it's not exactly easy to carry around. For the flash - it would be great to have. It would step up my capabilities and let me really have fun. For the camera - I already have a flash on the camera, so why not get something I can always have on hand...like when my daughter (20 months) was dragging a doll-sized chair through Target. Or my son was riding on the horse at the grocery store. A little less obvious than the SX10 IS. Thoughts?
Apartment decor help? I need inexpensive decor ideas for my apartment. I cannot paint or do anything perm. Here's what I'm working with: Living room and kitchen are only seperated by the kitchen counter. Living room floor is blue, walls are grey and white. (light grey). I have two windows in my livingroom and none in my kitchen. Kitchen counters are white appliances are mostly white. Cabinets are bright wood. I have a chest of drawers, a roll-top desk, a tall book case and some smaller kitchen chairs in my living room. They are all mostly dark wood. I cannot paint the bookcase. I need color schemes, cheap furnishing ideas (I MEAN CHEAP) and some way to seperate the two rooms if possible or bring them together color-wise without having them match exactly. I want them to look like seperate rooms. Details, color schemes, do-it-yourself ideas and links and pictures would be greatly appreciated and make a "best answer" more likely:) Thanks!
Can you PLEASE help me with this math question? Okay, so I have a project due tomorow and I've been working on it all night, but there's still one part that I can't figure out at all. I've been reading it over and over again and i can't figure out how to do it. Can you please help me? Here's the problem: Company A manufactures kitchen appliances. It costs them $11,000 for a complete set of major appliances. Right now, market research says that they can sell 90 units at a selling price of $22,000 each. However, the company can use cheaper materials to reduce their cost. However, for ever $300 savings by using inferior materials, it is estimated that the company will lose 5 customers. Note that the selling price of $22,000 is not affected by this. Find the number of $300 savings in order to maximize the company's profit. Then, also find the total profit they would make under these maximum conditions. Can you please help me with this? It would be so amazing if you could!!! Thank you so much in advance... Oh and I'm not looking for someone to necessarily do the problem for me. Even if you can just tell me how to do it, it would be GREAT! Thanks...
How do I quell my husband's anxieties about a home we're buying? My husband and I just signed a contract to purchase a 1600 square foot ranch style home on 1 acre of land in the hills north of Huntsville, AL for $105,000. The house is very well kept and only needs minor cosmetic repairs that mainly consist of new carpet and paint in the bedrooms and formal living room. Other than some outdated kitchen appliances the house is in great shape. The seller is a landscaper so the property also has a beautiful front and back yard. The sellers also have done significant cosmetic work to the kitchen, family room and dining room. I'm talking new laminate floors, ceramic tile, paint, lighting fixtures, counter tops and more. The house also has a fantastic view of the mountains in the distance. We live out in the sticks so we only have one neighbor next to us. My husband is nervous because his parents (mainly his mom) keep telling him that we "over paid" for the house. They live in Delaware (where we just moved from) and their excuse is that a few years before the housing boom they managed to buy 21 acres of old logging land for $50,000 at a tax auction; where they built a 2000 square foot 2 story home for an additional $125,000. The truth is, the old logging land was expensive to grade and required a variance from the local authorities to put in the septic tank. They inadvertently hired one of those mass-production type contractors who slaps up houses with the cheapest of materials so at 6 years old their house is basically falling apart around them. The home we're buying was built sometime in the mid-eighties and feels very sturdy. My dad worked in the residential construction industry for over 30 years (mainly doing high end remodels on older homes) and thinks this house is a good buy for the price. He taught me how to spot potential trouble areas in homes when I was a teenager so its not like I'm a total moron when it comes to home buying. I'm having the home inspected tomorrow anyway so if there is anything major we won't get stuck with it, per our contract. My mother-in-law convinced my husband that we were also getting a bad deal because the house is selling for $105,000 but is estimated to be appraised at $115,000 to $120,000 (it was originally listed for $130,000, last year). She says "its not enough of a discount in this market". What she fails to realize is that there really wasn't much of a boom or even a bust in the area we're in. Home prices only increased slightly faster than the normal rate for the area and haven't taken much of a dive since the bust. All she's doing is making my husband upset about our first home purchase. She also has this crazy idea that we "need" a lot 5 acres or bigger for our first purchase. Honestly, we would not be able to afford a house as nice as the one we're buying with a lot that size. I'm not comfortable taking on a $900+ a month mortgage at 22 years old. We're going through a several state sponsored first time home buyer programs (USDA Rural Development Mortgage, Step-Up and Mortgage Credit Certificate program) in our state that will keep our mortgage at around $650 a month. Which is only $30 more than our current rent. How do I get my mother-in-law to understand that our situation is totally different than hers. My father-in-law had just retired from the Air Force after 20 years when they bought their first house. I'm 22 and my husband is 25 and we're buying for the first time, a totally different ball game.
How to stimulate our economy.? As of November 2008, the world's population is estimated to be about 6.7 billion (6,700,000,000). The United States population is 305,186,613! The United States government is wanting to give away $700.000 billion to the banks and another &25.000 billion to the auto makers “after already giving them $25.000 billion,” making for a grand total of $50.000 billion, now they want to give away another $700.000 billion as an incentive to the public to stimulate the economy! This all adds up to be $64. billion dollars! Would it not be cheaper to give every one in the united states say a billion a piece? That way I’m fairly sure we would all go out and buy new homes, new cars, now kitchen Appliances and so on and thus boots up our economy and put more people to work! What would do with a Billion dollars! This is a BILLION! Not a Million. One thousand Million Dollars = a Billion!!!!

Jenn Air Double Oven? I am renovating my kitchen and the only appliances I have left to purchase are the double oven and range hood. I have been looking at the new GE Monogram series but Jenn Air is currently running a special and I can get a Jenn Air oven for about $1500 less than the GE. I have some concern about the reliability of the Jenn Air, but is it worth the $1500 extra for the GE? The same aplies for the hood - I can get a Jenn Air cheaper than the GE Monogram and am having difficulty choosing. I am on a budget and trying to get the most out of my dollar. Thanks.
Help with property appraisal!? Okay I my house is getting appraised in about 3 weeks. I need some ideas on how to get this appraisal high. I don't have much money to put into the house. I'd say $100.00 at most. The things I have done since I bought it are: `Painted almost all the walls - the rest to be done this weekend `Remodeled the kitchen and put in new appliances in the kitchen `Remodeled the bathrooms `Put new windows in all the bedrooms `Finished the basement to make it an in-law suite What do you suggest I could do to make any other improvements that again are cheap? Do you have any ideas as to what they are looking for? The comparables to my house are right at where I need to be. Is there any thing I can do quickly that will help? Please any suggestions will help! Thank you in advance for your help. The house is HUGE so making it look bigger is not an issue. The furniture in it is nice and there is not a lot of clutter in the house. I needs a deep cleaning yes, but what else. Thanks every one for the advice ... Skibm80 I find it funny everyone has a thumbs down except you. Every one had good suggestions. I don't see why they should get a thumbs down. By the way the outside doesn't need ANY work. My thumbs down is to you here. I don't give thumbs down on answers that answer the question. Have a great day!

Removing tile behind the cabinets & linoleum under them? Just bought a house and the kitchen had new cabinets, counters & appliances installed two years ago. Flooring was replaced too, but it’s some kind of cheap laminate nastiness that wasn’t installed well and needs to be replaced. We’ll have a pro floor installing buddy helping us, but much of the prep will be done ourselves. Here are the issues Cabinets were installed right over top of old tile so we need to remove that to install a new backsplash (most is behind cabinets, but some visible to right of ovens and at backsplash level). Any suggestions on how to do this? We’ve discussed taking off countertop, but we would also have to unhook in-counter gas stove. Secondly, the flooring will be replaced by ceramic tile. We have a lose kick plate that allowed us to see that 1)thankfully, crappy floor isn’t under cabinets, but 2) old linoleum wasn’t take up so it IS under the cabinets. :-( How should we deal with that? We may have to install new sub floor to accommodate the new tile Pic of corner with tile behind the cabinets for reference: http://photos2.hbm2.com/004/190/5/4/8/HBMLG_744845i.jpg. We don’t care if there’s tile behind the cabinets; we just want to install the backsplash and have it look good which means getting rid of the tile that’s visible. If it matters, we’re dealing with your basic solid surface “plastic” counters & MDF cabinets.
mains hot water has stopped...? Tenants in my flat just contacted me to say that there is no hot water. They noticed that for a couple of days there was less and less hot water for showers but now there is no hot water! I'm living overseas so will have to leave them to sort it out with a plumber but would be appreciate your thoughts on what the problem might be so that i'm prepared for the worst! The flat uses hot water for the bathroom and kitchen taps / shower only. There is no gas in the flat, all appliances are electric. Hot water is not used for the heating. The hot water storage tank is in a cupboard in the flat, so on the same floor as the bathroom and kitchen. The tenants have confirmed that all the fuses are fine and the timer is still working (i.e. it rotates as time elapses) so I'm guessing the problem is with the boiler itself? The area suffers from hard water. Could limescale be the problem? Or might the heating element be broken? If either of these, are they usually cheap and quick to fix?!
Dog vs. Garbage- Guess who wins...? Could anyone PLEASE recommend a good garbage can for my kitchen? I need either a brand name, a website, or a store. Needs to be locking or tightly sealed so even if the dog tips it over it won't open. Would prefer something easily sanitized. Don't really care about material but my kitchen is natural wood, hunter green, and black appliances, so matching would be nice, but not necessary. Needs to be fairly large, not something under sink. Price is negotiable. Any ideas? So far I have found zilch in local stores. (Jeez, I sound like those folks who want 'tiny, quiet, shedless, well-behaved, already potty trained, cheap dogs') LOL PS: The dog has learned every single thing I have taught her except for this one annoying thing- I am working on it every day but a stronger can would really help. EDIT: I already recycle everything- and I mean everything! The kitchen garbage is used for food leftovers- I do try to compost for the garden in the summer but that still leaves months with garbage in house- Also, typical non-recyclable stuff that can't go down a disposal- plastic wrap, used foil, etc. You know, kitchen garbage!
