Where is the best place to buy kitchen appliances? My wife and I have been doing some shopping and we've been astonished at the prices of stainless steel appliances... We're hoping someone out there knows of a great discount store that sells appliances for a lot less than retail. Specifically, we're looking to purchase a cooktop, wall oven and microwave, and a dishwasher. We find the prices are all fixed between: Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, etc... so please don't post any regular stores like these. Thank you!
whats the smart way to buy kitchen appliances? I am remodeling are kitchen and need all new kitchen appliances. Is there any discounts that I can ask for that I may not know about. I went to one local store and the gentlemen gave me a price of a gas stove that I want with cast iron grates and a nice refrigerator with the ice bucket on the door preferably counterdepth and the price for the kitchen package came out $6000. He said that was his best contracting price, I just believe that there is something a little more less expensive out there. So is there any good online deals or stores that I can go to and what kind of questions can I ask the store employees about getting discounts on the appliances?

Math Question? The first math question is. Ms. Sanchez earns $1,000 each week. Her employer withholds $308 for federal taxes. What percent of Ms. Sanchez earnings is withheld of taxes? The second math question is, A wholesaler of kitchen appliances offers a discount of 12% on the first $10,000 worth of merchandise and 17% on additional merchandise . What would be the final cost of $18,000 worth of appliances? The third questions, Troy bought a $1,200 savings certificate that paid simple interest. After 2 years, his money had earned $108 . What was the annual interest rate? The fourth question, a newspaper average daily circulation incresed from 510,000 to 545,700 . What was the percent increase in circulation?
Kitchen remodeling quote too good to be true? Recently we're going through the process of remodeling our kitchen and have been having different companies visit and give us quotes. Today a company called "Direct Remodeling" based in New Jersey gave us a quote that's too good to be true and I was wondering if anyone has any information about them because all my internet searches on all the popular review sites turned up zilch. For the same price that 3 other companies quoted me, the sales rep from Direct Remodeling told me they were willing to go further by giving us new tile flooring completely knock down a wall to turn into a half wall and fix any and all plumbing/electrical challenges this would cause with no extra cost. They said the way they price things is by 'project pricing' as in its locked from the start no matter if extra costs come up later such a needing to reroute an unseen water pipe or moving cabinetry to new spots. On top of all that I would get a 20-25% discount on PC Richardson appliances with their special 'contractor' discount. Are these guys for real? Or am I just looking to get knifed for the 40% downpay they are asking for? *edit* Their website is www.directkitchens.net
How much of a discount should I ask for on my rent? A little over a month ago I informed my landlord of a sizable mold issue in my kitchen. It took her about a week to get the proper type of vendor to come and look at it. Since then they ripped out the cabinets, appliances (except for stove and refrig) and dry wall. For nearly a month we were left with the large appliances in the living room, a torn apart kitchen with exposed beams, gas lines, etc, and a plastic curtain separating the kitchen from the rest of the house. During that time we had limited access and use of the kitchen and we have had to constantly herd our 16 month year old away from the hazards in the kitchen. Furthermore, the contractor is still not done. We still don't have use of the oven or dishwasher, and another leak was discovered under the sink that has not yet been repaired. Also, the contractor promised negative air filters that are yet to be seen. In light of all of this, I don't feel that I should be obligated to pay full rent, but what would be an appropriate discount to ask for?
Any Appliance Discounts, Scratch & Dent, Wholesale, Granite, in Washington DC? Hi. I live in Washington DC and am thinking about remodeling my small condo kitchen. I have had several contractors come out and look at the space and have received estimates ranging from $20k all the way up to $42k for the same work & materials. However, all of them have told me that if I buy the items myself from a wholesaler, I will save considerable cash. I have been looking but I have not been able to find any decent wholesalers for appliances in the area. I have tried Lowe's but after a poor install job they did (hired them to hang & install 3 doors, they charged me $1200, only hung 2, and marked the job as complete) I refuse to give them any more business. Does anyone know any business or have recommendations for discount appliance/home improvement stores in the DC area?

How do I quell my husband's anxieties about a home we're buying? My husband and I just signed a contract to purchase a 1600 square foot ranch style home on 1 acre of land in the hills north of Huntsville, AL for $105,000. The house is very well kept and only needs minor cosmetic repairs that mainly consist of new carpet and paint in the bedrooms and formal living room. Other than some outdated kitchen appliances the house is in great shape. The seller is a landscaper so the property also has a beautiful front and back yard. The sellers also have done significant cosmetic work to the kitchen, family room and dining room. I'm talking new laminate floors, ceramic tile, paint, lighting fixtures, counter tops and more. The house also has a fantastic view of the mountains in the distance. We live out in the sticks so we only have one neighbor next to us. My husband is nervous because his parents (mainly his mom) keep telling him that we "over paid" for the house. They live in Delaware (where we just moved from) and their excuse is that a few years before the housing boom they managed to buy 21 acres of old logging land for $50,000 at a tax auction; where they built a 2000 square foot 2 story home for an additional $125,000. The truth is, the old logging land was expensive to grade and required a variance from the local authorities to put in the septic tank. They inadvertently hired one of those mass-production type contractors who slaps up houses with the cheapest of materials so at 6 years old their house is basically falling apart around them. The home we're buying was built sometime in the mid-eighties and feels very sturdy. My dad worked in the residential construction industry for over 30 years (mainly doing high end remodels on older homes) and thinks this house is a good buy for the price. He taught me how to spot potential trouble areas in homes when I was a teenager so its not like I'm a total moron when it comes to home buying. I'm having the home inspected tomorrow anyway so if there is anything major we won't get stuck with it, per our contract. My mother-in-law convinced my husband that we were also getting a bad deal because the house is selling for $105,000 but is estimated to be appraised at $115,000 to $120,000 (it was originally listed for $130,000, last year). She says "its not enough of a discount in this market". What she fails to realize is that there really wasn't much of a boom or even a bust in the area we're in. Home prices only increased slightly faster than the normal rate for the area and haven't taken much of a dive since the bust. All she's doing is making my husband upset about our first home purchase. She also has this crazy idea that we "need" a lot 5 acres or bigger for our first purchase. Honestly, we would not be able to afford a house as nice as the one we're buying with a lot that size. I'm not comfortable taking on a $900+ a month mortgage at 22 years old. We're going through a several state sponsored first time home buyer programs (USDA Rural Development Mortgage, Step-Up and Mortgage Credit Certificate program) in our state that will keep our mortgage at around $650 a month. Which is only $30 more than our current rent. How do I get my mother-in-law to understand that our situation is totally different than hers. My father-in-law had just retired from the Air Force after 20 years when they bought their first house. I'm 22 and my husband is 25 and we're buying for the first time, a totally different ball game.
Who Didn't See This Coming...? And now: Cash for Kitchen Appliances........... A $300 million [cash-for-clunkers-type federal program] to boost sales of energy-efficient home appliances provides a glimmer of hope for beleaguered makers of washing machines and dishwashers, but it’s probably not enough to lift companies such as Whirlpool (WHR) and Electrolux out of the worst down cycle in the sector’s history. [Beginning late this fall], the program authorizes rebates of $50 to $200 for purchases of high-efficiency household appliances. The [money is part of the broader economic stimulus bill] passed earlier this year. Program details will vary by state, and the Energy Dept. has set a deadline of Oct. 15 for states to file formal applications. The Energy Dept. expects the bulk of the $300 million to be awarded by the end of November. (Unlike the clunkers auto program, consumers won’t have to trade in their old appliances.) …[Not surprisingly, appliance makers cheered the news.] Electrolux spokesman Tony Evans calls the federal program a “great opportunity to encourage consumers to replace their old appliances.” Lately, cash-strapped consumers have chosen to repair, rather than replace, hobbled dishwashers and other water-intensive appliances, according to industry analysts. Electrolux says it is readying “aggressive” marketing programs that will run parallel with the rebates, and it’s reasonable to expect appliance makers and retailers will devise additional discounts to amplify the rebates’ appeal. “We will be ready to go when the new incentive programs hit the market,” Evans said. http://michellemalkin.com/2009/08/24/and-now-cash-for-kitchen-appliances/ What's next....??? Care to take a guess ???

Which dishwasher? My parents bought a new kitchen from Wickes, which have lots of cut price appliances. Now we have a choice between an Electrolux ESL6115 which is priced at 250.GBP new and boxed (discount 50% off) and Zanussi ZDI6054QX Stainless Steel (very stylish) which is ex display and also half price at 300 GBP. I don't know which one to go for, which do you think I should buy?

unhealthy living conditions and we just moved in? I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant and have gestational diabetes. We just moved into this condo and at first we loved it. That was until we started to unpack and notice things since there wasn't electricity when we first moved in. First off, the appliances are pretty much antique including the mini stacked washer and dryer. Second off, the bathrooms were filthy with black stuff in one toilet and yellow stuff on the floor in the other bathroom, assuming its dried up pee. Third off, low water pressure in the sinks and toilets. Fourth off, a kitchen infested with mold. It took us about a week of complaining before we got anywhere. They ended up replacing the faucets fixing that problem and now we're working on the mold problem. Since there is mold in the kitchen, its been off limits and we've been having to eat out everyday which is totally unhealthy for me. Shouldn't we be getting a discount off of our rent or something? Maybe a reimbursement of all the food that we had to buy eating out because of non access to the kitchen? I'm glad they're finally doing something about the mold, but all this is making me be unhealthy and this is definitely not healthy living conditions so we should get something back for them being so stupid to letting us move in.
Feeling Pinch, Stores Woo Lagging Shoppers. Evaluate Article? Lackluster sales in this holiday season have retailers scrambling to wring a few last dollars from procrastinators by slashing prices, extending hours and wooing customers more persistently than last year. The moves show that retailers' strategy during this final weekend before Christmas -- when about 10% of holiday sales are expected to take place -- has become increasingly reliant on the same promotions and marathon hours once unique to the "Black Friday" weekend following Thanksgiving. But the discounts also reveal the pinch stores are in this year as the credit crunch, rising gas prices and winter storms have taken a toll on companies dependent on end-of-year sales. The tough economy has left aisles more empty this year. Total foot traffic at U.S. retail outlets took an 8.9% dive during the second full week of December, compared with the same period last year, according to an estimate from ShopperTrak RCT Corp., which bases its numbers on a formula that involves an electronic count of shoppers in malls and other retail outlets nationwide. A bright spot, however, has been online, where aggressive discounting and cut-rate deals on fast shipping have contributed to a surge in spending. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 16, online shoppers spent $23.5 billion, 19% higher than the corresponding days last year, according to comScore Inc., a Reston, Va., market research firm that tracks Web spending and traffic. Videogames, consoles and accessories are the fastest-growing category, more than doubling from the comparable period last year. Furniture, appliances and equipment ranks second, up 63%, while event tickets and consumer electronics are up 29% and 24%, respectively. Now, a final push is on, both online and in stores. Web retailers continued to hunt for business by cutting shipping charges to seal deals before the pre-Christmas shipping window closes. Shoebuy.com, a Boston-based unit of IAC/InterActive Corp. offered free express shipping until today. Online handbag merchant eBags upgraded purchases made by Wednesday from standard shipping to two-day air-shipping through UPS for no extra cost. Brick-and-mortar stores, meanwhile, retooled their hours for the weekend, hoping to spark their own shopping flurry. J.C. Penney Co. stores are staying open until midnight tonight and Saturday. Select Macy's Inc. stores on the East Coast will stay open nonstop throughout the weekend -- 107 hours straight for one branch in Queens. And New York-based FAO Schwarz made discounts of 25% to 50% on certain toys. Ed Schmults, the chief executive officer at FAO Schwarz, said that while foot traffic was up, business had not been as booming throughout the season as he hoped. The National Retail Federation, a trade group, is predicting just 4% in sales growth for 2007, the smallest growth rate in five years. Britt Beemer, chairman of America's Research Group, paints an even grimmer picture: He lowered his forecast of 2% retail sales growth to 1.8%, his lowest forecast in nearly 10 years. In the apparel category, men's clothing has showed modest single-digit growth through the first 20 days of the shopping season, according to MasterCard Spending Pulse, a unit of MasterCard Advisors, which tracks spending of all types. But women's apparel -- which last year constituted three times the sales of men's -- has been a major disappointment, as shoppers have avoided big purchases. Sales were down 5.7% from the same time last year. Retailers have responded with a flurry of price cuts, but large inventory remains in some stores. One of Gap Inc.'s Old Navy stores in downtown Chicago on Wednesday had piles of festive sweaters marked down to $20 from $36.50. Women's coats still stuffed the racks, despite being already marked down 50%, and its signature "performance fleece," also half off, was stacked eight shelves high. The bad tidings for apparel have left some retailers looking for other items to push. At Banana Republic, also owned by Gap, $64 gift sets of its perfumes, body creams and shower creams were marked down 30%. Gold-boxed gift sets of a new line of bath products at Ann Taylor Stores Corp. stores were discounted to $19.50 from $29. At Limited Brands Inc.'s Victoria's Secret, stores were piled with beauty gift sets, many 40% off. Meanwhile luxury goods are expected to have a good season this year, and retail consultant Frederick Crawford of AlixPartners predicts "pockets of good news" for high-end retail. For brands like Prada and Gucci, he expects to see 5% to 7% growth. According to retail surveys, electronics sales were down 0.5% in the three-week period between Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 compared to a year ago, according to Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis for market watcher NPD Group. He said consumers in recent years have been delaying purchases until closer to Christmas, which may account for the slowdown. Indeed, Angela Smith has waited until the last week to make her purchases. A 39-year-old bank employee in Dallas, Ms. Smith said she is waiting for prices to drop further as well as trying to spend less. For her three nephews, ages 12, 8 and 7, she plans to buy remote-controlled cars, which Wal-Mart Stores Inc. initially priced at $59 and has since dropped to $49. "I am going to swing by this weekend and see if they are going to take it down one more time," says Ms. Smith, who was shopping for a co-worker's present at her local Wal-Mart midweek. Home-furnishings retailers, fighting the weak housing market, are being particularly aggressive with their promotions this year. At Williams-Sonoma Inc.'s Pottery Barn store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue, Christmas-tree-shaped candles were discounted 50%, and holiday garlands of fake evergreen branches were 30% off. Wrapped gifts such as silver jewelry boxes, also marked down 30%, were stacked high Wednesday afternoon. Home-improvement outfits like Lowe's Cos. Inc. and Home Depot Inc. are destined to be hardest hit, says AlixPartners' Mr. Crawford. "Consumers are absolutely showing us that they will be delaying discretionary purchases" like gear to remodel a kitchen, he said. A boom-bust pattern is typical after Thanksgiving's Black Friday discounts, which encourages a flurry of purchases early but leads to a tapering off in early December, killing shopping momentum. This year the pattern was more pronounced: A double-digit sales surge on Black Friday exceeded retailers' expectations; but come December, throngs of shoppers didn't return. There was one exception, however: online retail. Web merchants have discounted and promoted heavily this season, say industry analysts. Shipping promotions have been particularly popular. Sixty-eight percent of surveyed Web retailers said they are offering express shipping promotions this year, up from 49% last year, according to Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, an online retail trade group and unit of National Retail Federation. As the boom continues, these companies are becoming increasingly creative to draw customers. This year Ice.com, a Montreal-based Internet jeweler, has rolled out new videos to promote products and free overnight shipping. It has experimented with new marketing tricks such as buying front-page ads on Microsoft Corp.'s MSN and Yahoo Inc.'s Web sites this week. Ice.com even tried to tap influencers to drive word-of-mouth among blogs, magazine mentions and celebrities.
